Hamas has reached out to Pakistan for assistance, which may come as a surprise given Pakistan’s reputation as an unlikely ally. Ismail Haniyeh, a senior Hamas official, spoke at an online event in Pakistan and suggested that if Israel were met with resistance from Pakistan, it would be unable to continue perpetrating cruelty against Palestine. Haniyeh described Pakistan as a brave country and one that is home to mujahidin fighters. This move by Hamas indicates that they are feeling increasingly isolated and desperate for support in their ongoing conflict with Israel. The success of this alliance remains to be seen.

Pakistan does not recognize Israel and has no diplomatic relations with the country. Pakistan has openly criticized Israel and provided help to Palestine, including possibly providing training to Hamas fighters in the past, although this claim remains unconfirmed. A Pakistani senator had alleged that Islamabad had indeed trained members of Hamas previously, but there has been no confirmation of this accusation. Despite the lack of any official relationship between these two countries, their history together is marked by tension and conflict.

Recent polls conducted in Pakistan after October 7th reveal that the majority of Pakistani citizens support Hamas, with a staggering 91% expressing solidarity towards the group, while only 2% sympathize with Israel. This sentiment was also reflected in anti-Israel demonstrations held across several cities in Pakistan, including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi. Thousands of people gathered together to chant slogans against Israel, highlighting the deep-rooted animosity between the two nations. Despite international efforts to promote peace and reconciliation between Palestine and Israel, it appears that Pakistan remains firmly aligned with Palestine and shows no signs of changing its stance anytime soon.

Pakistan’s vast Muslim population and nuclear power status make it a significant player in global politics. However, its foreign policy, particularly its support for Hamas, has raised concerns among the international community. This contradiction begs the question of why Pakistan would seek assistance while aligning itself with extremist or terrorist groups. Understanding Pakistan’s geopolitical situation and relationships with different actors in the region is crucial to comprehending this complex issue. Pakistan’s actions have both domestic and international implications that must be carefully considered by all parties involved.

The issue at hand revolves around the constantly changing attitudes of various nations towards Palestine, a topic that is heavily influenced by political expediency and the economic turmoil they face. In order to secure financial aid from powerful Western countries like the United States, Pakistan is expected to maintain a policy of non-interference when it comes to Israel, even in the face of criticism from other nations. This latest development illustrates just how intricate and multifaceted international politics can be, with economic pressures often playing a decisive role in shaping key decisions and alliances on the global stage.

The ongoing trend towards neutrality in Pakistan is not being universally accepted by all segments of society. Islamist groups are taking advantage of the widespread pro-Palestinian sentiment among the public, and are doing so by engaging in solidarity visits with top-level officials of leadership factions based in Doha, such as Jamaat-e-Islami or JUI — F groups. Meanwhile, influential figures within the establishment have yet to come to a decision on this issue, although they possess significant power during times when crises threaten regional stability. Currently, it appears that offering moral support alone will not suffice in light of the Israeli rockets indiscriminately targeting Gaza residents. The situation is intricate and multi-layered, and its final outcome remains uncertain at this time.

A group of influential Islamic leaders, who have played a significant role in the Afghan Jihad, recently made a visit to Doha with the blessing of the powerful military. This visit would not have been possible without the approval of the army, as they hold significant authority. It is evident that these leaders possess a great deal of influence and power within their community and are respected by those in positions of authority. The fact that they were granted permission to travel to Doha is a testament to their standing and reputation within the Islamic world.

Roles of JUI-F and Jamaat-e-Islami in Afghan Jihad:

JUI-F:

  • l Played a significant role in mobilizing support for the Afghan Mujahideen against the Soviet invasion.
  • Provided financial and logistical assistance to the Mujahideen.
  • Recruited fighters from Pakistan’s Pashtun population to join the Afghan Jihad.
  • Promoted an ideology of pan-Islamism and resistance against communist forces.

Jamaat-e-Islami:

  • Established training camps for Afghan Mujahideen in Pakistan.
  • Provided ideological guidance and religious education to the Mujahideen.
  • Advocated for a strict interpretation of Islamic law in Afghanistan.
  • Played a key role in shaping the political landscape of post-Taliban Afghanistan.

Potential consequences of their involvement in Gaza war:

Increased regional tensions:

The potential involvement of Pakistan in supporting Hamas may be viewed as a significant move, potentially resulting in diplomatic tensions with Israel and its allies. This could have far-reaching consequences, further exacerbating the already precarious situation in the Middle East. The ramifications of such a move cannot be overstated, as it has the potential to not only worsen existing conflicts but also ignite new ones. It is imperative that all parties involved exercise caution and restraint in their actions to prevent any escalation of hostilities and promote peace and stability in the region.

Radicalization and extremism:

The potential impact of their involvement cannot be understated, as it has the power to embolden and validate extremist organizations operating in both Afghanistan and Gaza. This, in turn, may result in a surge of aggression and insecurity throughout these areas. The ramifications of such a scenario are significant and could have far-reaching consequences for the region and beyond. It is therefore imperative that measures are taken to mitigate the potential risks associated with this possibility.
